As first reported by NBA Insider for ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski, former Indiana basketball forward OG Anunoby was traded from the Toronto Raptors to the New York Knicks.
Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn were sent to the Knicks for a package that included Toronto native RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and a 2024 second-round draft pick. The Knicks gave up a lot to land the former Hoosier as Barrett is currently averaging 18.2 points per game while Quickley is averaging 15.0 points per game off the bench.
The Knicks also waived DaQuan Jeffries to create roster space for the trade.
Anunoby is in his seventh season with the Raptors after being drafted in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft. He is currently averaging 15.1 points per game, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 steals on the season. Anunoby has been a difference-maker on both ends and was named Second Team All-Defense in 2023.
The Knicks who are currently 17-14 and the 7th seed in the East have been rumored to be targeting Anunoby for some time and they finally were able to land him in a massive trade.
Anunoby now joins Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle as the Knicks’ big 3 will look to compete against the top teams in the Eastern conference.
