As first reported by National Recruiting Expert for On3 Joe Tipton, class of 2024 four-star big man Patrick Ngongba named his top 8 schools on Tuesday, which included Indiana. Other schools that were listed include UConn, Kentucky, Kansas State, Duke, Kansas, Providence, and Michigan.
Indiana offered Ngongba back in May.
Ngongba is ranked No. 26 in the 247Sports class of 2024 Composite Rankings, No. 32 in the 2024 Rivals150, and No. 26 in the On3 2024 Top Basketball Recruits.
Ngongba, who attends powerhouse east coast high school Paul VI (Va.), played for Team Takeover on the Nike EYBL circuit this past season. He averaged 9.0 points, 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 73.8% from the field.
IU assistant coach Kenya Hunter has strong ties to both Paul VI (Va.) High School and Team Takeover.
Ngongba is in discussion with the Indiana basketball staff about a visit. Ngongba has been one of the steady stock-risers in the 2024 class and has seen some major improvements with both his body and overall game.
“The development of Patrick Ngongba II over the last few months has been impressive in many ways,” 247Sports National Recruiting Director Eric Bossi wrote last month. “The 6-foot-10 big man first hit the 247Sports radar last summer as a hard playing big man who had great positional size. Since then, he’s gotten his body into tip-top condition, Along with his improved conditioning and athleticism, his all-around game has totally taken off. He’s become a pretty reliable scorer in the paint, has significantly improved his touch and he has been adding something new to his game each time he takes the floor. While his current jump is a big one, he’ll be in line for another huge move if he keeps improving throughout the summer.”
HoosierIllustrared has seen Patrick Ngongba multiple times this summer and was able to compile scouting notes on his game:
“The 6-foot-11 and 235-pound Ngongba is a very strong rebounder and rim protector. He spends most of his time inside the paint on both ends of the floor. His offensive skillset is still developing but his production this summer has been signifiant. His back-to-the-basket game is what he is best at right now and scores with great touch around the rim. He potential as a rim protector as well.”
