The transfer portal officially opened up earlier this week and already there are nearly 1,200 players who are looking for new places to play during the 2025-26 season. As the Indiana basketball program currently has six players in the portal, the expectation is most will not decide to return to Bloomington in the fall, making way for a fully rebuilt team in year one under new head coach Darian DeVries.
One player who is already expected to join DeVries at Indiana is his son, Tucker DeVries. Tucker is currently in the transfer portal and is one of the more talented guards in the country.
DeVries played just eight games at West Virginia last year before suffering what would be a season-ending shoulder injury. Before the injury, however, he was averaging 14.9 points 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and was shooting 47.3 percent from three — on 3.3 made 3s a game. He had 26 points against Arizona and helped lead West Virginia to wins over Gonzaga and Arizona down in the Bahamas.
Tucker is known for his shooting ability and is a career 36.7 percent three-point shooter, shooting 37 percent or better in each of the last three years. He has averaged 2.5 made 3s a game for his 112 career games played.

While it’s still early in the transfer window, DeVries is a consensus top-10 prospect in the portal He ranks 5th in the On3.com rankings, 6th in the 247Sports rankings and 10th in ESPN’s rankings.
247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein broke down DeVries’ game when he entered the portal this week.
“You wouldn’t necessarily know it from his 36.7 career percentage from behind the arc, but DeVries is one of the most prolific shooters in college basketball. Through 8 games at West Virginia last year, he knocked down 47% of his attempts, showing not just elite floor-spacing, but also the ability to be a movement shooter off screens. Of course, the fact that he played 8 games is the major concern. Availability was rarely a factor at Drake, where he was the two-time Missouri Valley Player of the Year, and yet he was often banged up and playing through various injuries, including one to his shoulder in his junior season. In addition to his three-point shooting, DeVries is comfortable in the mid-post and mid-range areas, sometimes relying on little fade-aways to get his shot off over contesting defenders. He’s not an especially burst athlete, although the extent to which his health has impacted that is unknown. Defensively, he’s smart enough to be in all the right spots, but can be limited by footspeed in various matchups.”
Before West Virginia, DeVries played three years at Drake and averaged 18.0 points and shot 35.9 percent from three. His best season was his junior year, averaging 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and shooting 37 percent from three.
Tucker DeVries is just one of an entire roster of players that will likely be new to the Indiana basketball program next season.
“I think the biggest thing and where you can get yourself in trouble is you’re not building a collection of players. You have to build a team, and a team has to be able to fit together, play together, win together, be able to function together,” Darian DeVries said about building a roster. “That’s the number one thing, and I’ve had to do it now several times because basketball has changed. College athletics has changed. We’ve had multiple times now as a head coach we’ve had to sign nine, ten guys in a given season.
” … When you have to sign nine, ten guys, it’s easy to go like, oh, let’s just give in for this particular one, and we’re just not going to do that. I know our staff, sometimes we get frustrated with, like, hey, we got this kid, we can get here, here’s a few of the red flags, and we’re out. We just really believe that locker room is critical because you cannot survive without a good locker room.”
