The recruitment of Northern Colorado transfer wing and Indiana basketball target Dalton Knecht is starting to take shape.

Knecht took a visit to Oregon last weekend and is set to take his second visit to Tennessee this weekend, according to Mike Wilson of Knoxnews.com. A visit has been discussed with Indiana but not yet been finalized. He had a zoom call with the Indiana basketball staff last week.

The second recruiting dead period in April ends on April 13, meaning on-campus visits can begin again this weekend. Knecht’s visit to Tennessee will be alongside fellow Indiana target Chris Ledlum as well.

Dalton Knecht averaged 20.2 points per game and shot 38.1 percent from three last season on 6.3 attempts per game. He also averaged 7.2 rebounds and shot 47.9 percent overall from the floor.

Indiana needs shooting and needs high volume shot makers. Knecht has attempted 5.0 3s per game in 67 career games. He is a versatile offensive option who can create both off of the dribble and in standstill opportunities. He’s a career 37.3 percent shooter from the perimeter.

Knecht is the No. 9 overall transfer in the 247Sports transfer rankings.

Before his time at Northern Colorado, he was a juco All-American at Northeastern.

247Sports college writer Issac Trotter broke down how Knecht could fit with Indiana.

“Knecht has the lead guard traits to build a pick-and-roll heavy scheme with him and Malik Reneau. But if Xavier Johnson is able to return to the Hoosiers next season, Indiana may have to sell Knecht on being more of the secondary, off-the-ball scorer,” Trotter said. “Knecht, Reneau and Johnson would be a very polished trio, and there’s no doubt Knecht is a midrange maestro who can attack the heavy dose of drop coverage he’d see in the Big Ten.”

According to sources, other programs who are involved outside of Oregon and Tennessee are North Carolina, Kansas and UCLA. Overall, Dalton Knecht’s recruitment as been very quiet up to this point.

After his visit to Oregon, there was a feeling around the recruitment that he could be committing. With the dead period now over and another visit set, there could still be some time before a decision is ultimately made.

Indiana currently has two commitments out of the transfer portal with center Kel’el Ware and forward Payton Sparks.
