Look: Former Indiana basketball icon has welcome dinner for team in NYC

Indiana basketball has made it to New York ahead of the Empire Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Hoosiers will be facing the No. 5 ranked team and defending national champions UConn on Sunday and then will play either Texas or Louisville depending on the outcomes.

The Indiana men’s basketball team was welcomed into New York last night by very familiar, iconic face from the program’s past.

As posted on the Indiana basketball Twitter account, former Indiana all-time great guard Isiah Thomas hosted a welcome dinner for the Hoosiers.

During his time with Indianan basketball ((1979–1981)), Thomas became arguably the greatest player in program history. In 1981, he led the Hoosiers to winning the National Championship whole also becoming a consensus 1st-team All-American. He would go onto have a stellar NBA career winning leading the Pistons to 2 NBA Championships (1989, 1990).

Indiana basketball trail the 10-game series 4-6 against UConn. Tip off is scheduled for 1 pm ET on ESPN this Sunday.
