Indiana basketball fans are going to have to wait a little longer on a decision from a key 2024 five-star center target.
Per a report from college basketball recruiting expert Tilly Donovan of BurnerBall.com, part of the Full Ride Network, 2024 five-star center Derik Queen is expected to delay his decision again. It was originally expected that Queen would be making a decision at the 2024 Spaulding HoopsHall Classic which Montverde Academy will be playing in.
It reportedly a toss up between Indiana basketball and Maryland at this point.
The connection for Queen to Maryland is his hometown. Queen grew up in the Baltimore area before heading to Florida for his last few years of high school. Maryland is pitching the ‘hometown kid’ theme while also pushing the Under Armor connection. Maryland is sponsored by Under Armor as is Queen’s AAU program, Team Thrill.
The way Indiana uses its big men is also an intriguing message — between the development of Trayce Jackson-Davis to the terrific play from both Malik Reneau and Kel’el Ware this season.
Queen is ranked No. 17 overall in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
As it is well-documented, Derik Queen is teammates with 2024 five-star Indiana basketball signee Liam McNeeley. The big man is currently averaging a near double-double of 16.1 points and 7.0 rebounds in 15 games this season thus far for Montverde Academy.
“We have a great relationship,” McNeeley told HoosierIllustrated of his relationship with Queen. “We’re brothers.”
