IU basketball kicked off the brand new year with their second win in Big Ten play with a 84-74 win over Rutgers on Thursday night.

There were many standout performances from the Hoosiers but one in particular that may not standout statistically as the rest is from senior wing Anthony Leal. In 18 minutes off the bench, Leal scored 5 points and 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Leal also did about as good as anyone could last night guarding Rutgers star freshman Ace Bailey.

With Anthony Leal, most people aren’t really talking about his stats from last night. Instead, they are talking about one particular play.

With the final seconds ticking down in the first half, Indiana basketball guard Myles Rice drove the lane and was blocked by Ace Bailey. The ball bounced off the backboard with Leal catching and turning around to hit a crazy near half-court shot at the buzzer.

“Yeah, I got nothing for you on that (chuckling). I saw him shoot it and I tried to go get a tip in and it got blocked,” said IU basketball wing Anthony Leal. “I chased it down, peeked at the clock and saw there wasn’t much time so I just kind of turned around and shot it. Weird things like that seem to happen for me, so I’ll take it. I would rather be lucky, so.”

“No, honestly, it was how much hurry up, we got to go to halftime, figure some stuff out and try to get a win. I’m never really focused on my own success or stats or anything. It’s cool that it went in, cool to celebrate for a second but next play, we got to make sure we get a win.”

The shot was so crazy that is landed No. 1 on last night’s SportCenter Top 10 Plays.
