There is no doubt that the Indiana basketball program has among the top crowds and student sections in the country. Even in down years for the program, it’s among the top in college basketball.
With Indiana finishing in the top three of the Big Ten this past season and heading back to the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season, there was an even bigger emphasis on the student section.
According to college basketball analyst Andy Katz, the Hoosiers cracked the top five for the top student sections in the country this season.
Indiana came in at the No. 4 spot, one spot behind Big Ten opponent Michigan State.
“We have the best fans in college basketball, so we ride that,” IU forward Trayce Jackson-Davis said earlier this season “… we have the best fans in the country. We have the best student section in the country, and it’s been an honor and a privilege to play in front of them, and to put on this uniform every day.”
“Oh, we’ve got the best fans in college basketball in, doubt in my mind,” IU head coach Mike Woodson added. “I’ve seen it for 40-some years of my life, since I came in here in 1976, the fan base here has not wavered one bit and they were fantastic tonight.”
Too low? Potentially.
Indiana has gone 29-6 in home games over the two years under Mike Woodson. In 2022-23, Indiana was 15-2 at home. That was the second-best mark in the Big Ten, one win behind Maryland.
