Heading into his fifth season with IU Basketball, Trey Galloway has played with a lot of talented players. Some of those teammates are in the NBA, others are playing overseas.

However, there’s one player in particular he said he would want to play with again if he had the chance.

And surprisingly it’s not Trayce Jackson-Davis.

“I would say Kel’el [Ware]. Trayce is going to be mad at me but I told Trayce this dude is legit and he’s shown it,Galloway said on his appearance of The Players’s Perspective hosted by former IU Basketball shooter Miller Kopp.

Over the last seven games of the regular season, Ware and Galloway established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the pick-and-roll game.

During that stretch, Ware averaged 20.7 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game. He also shot 69.2% from the field and 44.4% from three as IU Basketball went 4-3 over that stretch.

Excluding the final game that he missed most of due to an injury, Galloway averaged 9.5 points and 7.8 assists per game. Many of those assists came in the pick-and-roll with Ware.

“Once we really started clicking and he brought that out at the end of the year and he started to play the way everyone knew he could play, it made the game so easy for me,” Galloway said. “All I had to do was throw it up to the rafters and he was gonna go get it.”

At seven feet tall with a 7-foot-7 wing span, Ware’s combination of length and size made him a threat above the rim on both ends of the court for IU Basketball.

That talent translated immediately to the NBA Summer League where Ware picked up right where he left off with Indiana. In six games, he averaged 18.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game for the Miami Heat.

While Ware was the former teammate that Galloway picked, he also made sure to mention two former Hoosiers he would have liked to play with.

“Obviously Yogi [Ferrell] would’ve been a really fun guy to play with. He’s legit,” Galloway said.

Ferrell has had a lasting legacy with IU Basketball after a special four-year career. Not only did he start all 137 games he appeared in, Ferrell averaged 14.5 points and 4.6 assists per game throughout his career while being named first-team all-conference twice, second-team all-conference once, and an All-American.

Ferrell won the Big Ten Regular Season Title outright twice with Indiana, once in 2013 as a freshman and the second time in 2016 as a senior. The other former Hoosier Galloway mentioned also happened to play on that 2013 team with Ferrell.

“I think Cody Zeller would be great [to play with], too. That dude plays hard,” Galloway said.

Zeller spent two seasons playing for Indiana before entering the draft and was a catalyst for the 2013 Big Ten Regular Season Champion. He averaged 16.5 points, and 8.0 rebounds en route to a First Team All-Big Ten selection and a consensus Second Team All-American selection.

Zeller made two Sweet Sixteen appearances with IU Basketball and left an impressive legacy with the program after his two seasons.

During the conclusion of the podcast, Kopp shared that he saw Trayce Jackson-Davis and shared with him Galloway’s answers and the reasoning behind them.

Jackson-Davis responded by asking, “I wouldn’t go up there and get it?” Kopp recalled.

While Galloway may not have said Jackson-Davis, it’s clear the pair have a strong relationship after spending three seasons together with IU Basketball.

As Galloway enters his final season with Indiana, he is looking to create a lasting legacy similar to the ones Jackson-Davis, Ferrell, Zeller, and many other players have left before him.
