Indiana basketball has an exhibition game set for the upcoming 2024-25 season against a team with huge ties to the program.

As it was announced via Twitter, Marian University will return to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on November 1st in an exhibition matchup. The Marian Knights are coached by by first year head coach and son of legendary Indiana basketball head coach Bobby Knight, Pat Knight.

“I am really excited for Pat Knight, Steve Downing and the basketball program at Marian,” Woodson said when Pat Knight was hired a few months ago. “Pat is a great young man, an exceptional young coach, and will do wonderful things while coming home to work for such a great university.”

The Hoosiers played Marian last season in an exhibition contest and defeated them 94-61. Indiana basketball was led in the win by former center Kel’el Ware with a 20 point, 11 rebound double-double. Returning forwards Mackenzie Mgbako and Malik Reneau both added 15 and 14 points respectfully.

The Marian addition to the schedule adds yet another opponent to Indiana basketball’s 2024-25 slate. The Hoosiers non-conference schedule was announced just two weeks ago, highlighted by notable matchups with South Carolina at Assembly Hall and the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas over Thanksgiving week.

“My staff and I put together a non-conference schedule that will lead to long-term success this season,” said head coach Mike Woodson. “We have a new team this year that we are excited to showcase in front of the sold-out crowds in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

“We will be tested by some veteran, well-coached ball clubs early in the season that will prepare us for a 20-game conference schedule. We are looking forward to playing in one of the best in-season tournaments in our game in the Battle 4 Atlantis. The matchups, no matter how they fall, will create a great test for our team.”

The Marian Knights went 23-8 a season ago.
