Hoosier Illustrated Live Blog: Final – Indiana basketball 69, UNCG 58

Indiana basketball is coming off their biggest of the young season thus far having beaten the South Carolina Gamecocks over the weekend to improve to 3-0 this year. They have one more game before they travel to The Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis. Tonight, they host UNC Greensboro.

The Spartans enter the game with a record of 2-1. Junior guard Kenyon Giles paces the scoring attack with 16.3 points per game on 18-of-36 (50.0%) shooting from the floor and 10-of-20 (50.0%) shooting from the 3-point line. Junior guard Donovan Atwell (12.3 points per game) and fifth-year guard Ronald Polite III (10.3) contribute double figures for head coach Mike Jones.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 PM ET and will be on FS1.

First half:

Indiana basketball wins the tip and we are off.

Myles Rice picking up where he left off. Corner three from the sophomore guard to get Indiana on the board first.

Indiana basketball would then force a shot clock violation.

The feed the ball into Oumar Ballo and he gets a hook shot to fall.

Malik Reneau with a steal but had an awkward transition bucket. Limping around slightly but he is still on the floor.

Ballo gets his second bucket. Hoosiers feeding the big man early here as they should.

Stoppage in play with Myles Rice fixing his shoe.

UNCG going to a 2-3 zone. Myles Rice has no issue with that he busts his second three. The lead guard is playing with so much confidence right now.

Media Timeout at the 15:29 mark. Indiana basketball leads 12-3.

Mackenzie Mgbako knocks down a jumper off a screen on the next possession.

Rice misses his first three of the game.

Kanaan Carlyle has Indiana’s first turnover of the game. Tried to force it to Reneau in a post-up action.

Bryson Tucker, Trey Galloway, check in for Ballo and Carlyle. Luke Goode checks in for Mgbako. Langdon Hatton in for Malik Reneau.

Hatton get a quick bucket when he checks in.

Kanaan Carlyle checks in for Rice.

Rice and Mgbako back in. Ballo gets called for an illegal screen out of the break.

Indiana basketball lets up a couple of second chance point chances and UNCG hits a three to cut the lead down to 9. Indiana basketball getting sloppy now.

Reneau checks back in.

Indiana basketball has not scored in over 5 min.

Mgbako goes 2-2 at the free throw line.

UNCG hit a three but Carlyle hits a three to answer it.

Rice has destroyed drop coverage this game.

Tuckers goes 2-2 at the line out of the break. Goode checks in for Ballo.

Mgbako fouled. He goes 2-2 at the line again. 6-6 at the line as a team right now.

Rice got fouled pretty hard on a steal. He went 2-2 at the line.

Hoosiers on a 10-0 run now.

Goode misses a wide open three. Getting concerning.

UNCG now on a 7-0 run.

Second Half:

Indiana basketball starts the ball with the ball. Turnover right out of the gate.

Reneau with a strong play at the basket and scores through contact. He hits the free throw.

UNCG with two made three early this half.

Timeout Mike Woodson. Just a pathetic way to start this half. Indiana’s lead is on 39-35.

Ballo runs the floor hard and it results in a trip to the line. He goes 1-2.

Reneau picks up a foul.

Under-16 Media Timeout: Indiana basketball 40, UNCG 39

Tied game now. 40-40.

Turnover Indiana basketball.

Nice cut for Bryson Tucker and gets rewarded with a score plus the foul. He makes the free throw. Hoosiers back up three.

Indiana basketball in the bonus the last 14:30 this game.

Tucker hits a smooth turnaround jumper. Hoosiers back up 5.

Reneau fouled as he grabbed a missed three from Rice. He goes 2-2 at the line.

UNCG gets called for an illegal screen. Great defense by Tucker to cause that. Tucker follows it with a midrange jumper.

Luke Goode hits a transition three as Indiana starts to gain momentum. The crowd in Assembly Hall with the biggest cheer of the night.

Indiana basketball leads 52-42 with 11:39 left. 

12-2 run for Indiana since the game was tied at 40.

Missed three from UNCG and Indiana responds with a bucket from Reneau.

UNCG hits a tough three.

Bryson Tucker is just too automatic in that midrange game. Back-to-back jumpers made from that area.

Steal by Oumar Ballo. He gets the ball to Tucker who finds Rice for the lob.

Tucker goes 1-2 at the line out of the break. He would pick up a foul on the other end.

UNCG cuts the lead to 9.

Foul called on Kanaan Carlyle. UNCG misses the FT but they get their own miss. It results in them cutting it to 7.

Ballo score off a Reneau assist. Hoosiers back up 9.
