Live, running blog of Indiana basketball vs Sam Houston University in the Hoosiers eighth game of the 2024-25 season.

Indiana basketball returns home to face Sam Houston after finishing 1-2 at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas.

While it was a disappointing week, the Hoosiers won their final game of the tournament against Providence and will look to build on that win against Sam Houston.

Sam Houston comes into this game with a 4-4 record and is led by second-year head coach Chris Mudge. Senior Lamar Wilkinson leads the Bearkats in scoring as he averages 19.4 points per game. Dorian Finister and Cameron Huefner also average double-figures for Sam Houston. Finister averages 11.4 points and 7.0 rebounds, while Huefner adds 10.4 points a game.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be on BTN.

Reneau slam ties it back up to 9.

Goode fouled on a shot attempt. He goes 1-2 at the line.

Rice hits a pull jumper in transition to extend the lead to 3.

Malik Reneau bringing life to this Assembly Hall crowd. Couple of big stops on the defensive end.

There was an airball by Sam Houston but Myles Rice did not let it go out of bounds and it ended up being a turnover on the Hoosiers. Dumb play by Rice.

Sam Houston calls timeout at the 9:24 mark. Indiana leads 20-11.

Galloway with a foul plus the bucket. He converts at the line.

While energy seems a little dead, Indiana is on an impressive 19-3 run.

Luke hits his third three. 3-4 from deep right now.

Hoosiers forces a shot clock violation.

Ballo fouled. He goes 2-2 at the line. Hoosiers up 31-12.

Goode hits his 4th three.

Tucker with back-to-back strong takes to the rim. Got a dunk and then got fouled on a drive attempt. Tucker went 0-2 at the line, however.

Mike Woodson calls timeout. Up 36-14 with 4:24 left. 13-2 run the last 4:02. Have hit last 5 FGs.

Ballo in for Luke Goode. Ballo would get fouled and go 0-2.

Couple of sloppy turnovers for Indiana increases it to 8 total.

Sam Houston cuts the lead to 40-25.

Ballo rebound and finds Mgbako for a transition dunk.

Second half

Sam Houston scores out of the break. Hoosiers answer with a little buddy ball action with Ballo feeding Reneau for the ‘oop.

Sam Houston cuts the lead to 44-32.

Mgbako fouled. He goes 2-2 at the line.

Ballo fouled. He goes 2-2 at line.

Sam Houston cuts the lead down to 9. Terrible effort from Indiana basketball right now.

Tough baseline jumper from Myles Rice.

Anthony Leal with a steal which leads to a craft bucket from Reneau in transition.

Luke Goode with his fifth three. Just been electric.

Strong cut from Bryson Tucker gets him to the FT line. He goes 2-2 at the line.

Goode hit some technical free throws out of the break. Ballo would then shoot from a personal foul and go 2-2. Hoosiers up 63-47.

Luke Goode with a career-high 18 points in just 15 minutes of action tonight. Still 11:56 remaining.

Big Myles Rice three to extend the lead to 68-52.

Sam Houston has hit their last 10-12 shots. Getting a lot of buckets plus the fouls.

Myles Rice looks so much more comfortable attacking first, making plays second. His scoring ability is what really opens up the rest of his game, and the offense for Indiana. Starting to see parts of that in the second half here.

Myles Rice with a quiet 13 points right now. Only 1 assist and 3 turnovers, however. A much better performance overall than what we saw in Atlantis.
