The Indiana baseball program had a phenomenal few days at the 2024 MLB Draft and as it wrapped up on Tuesday, there was a considerable stat leaning in IU’s favor.

The Hoosiers, who had six draft picks this year, led the Big Ten with most selections from a single program this year. It was also the most draftees from the Indiana baseball program since 2021.

IU had four selections in the first five rounds which was a program record.

Among the six were Luke Sinnard — a third-round selection and a top-100 pick — Nick Mitchell, Carter Mathison, Connor Foley, Brock Tibbitts and Brayden Risedorph. In addition to those six, Griffin Tobias, Cooper Malamazian and Henry Brummel were all IU signees that were selected. That trio will now have the option to sign professionally or join the Indiana baseball program later this fall.

Indiana’s six picks joined three other years in the last six seasons when the program had six-or-more players selected in the same draft.

Since head coach Jeff Mercer took over the program in 2019, no program in the Big Ten has had more draftees than Indiana — 24 overall.

Indiana finished the year 33-26-1 and reached postseason play for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. But, it failed to make it out of the regional round — just like every other postseason since 2013.
