Indiana basketball continues its 124th season of competition in men’s against archrival Purdue, the second-ranked team in the country, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 16. The Hoosiers are coming off a big win over Minnesota to improve to 4-2 in Big Ten play.

The Boilermakers (15-2, 4-2) are led by the reigning National Player of Year, Zach Edey. The 7-foot 4-inch center averages a team-high 22.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game, including a 30-point, 20-rebound outing against Penn State (Jan. 13).

Sophomore guard Braden Smith averages 12.4 points and 6.9 assists per game on 48.2% (27-of-56) shooting from the 3-point line. As a team, Purdue shoots 39.8% (150-of-377) from behind the 3-point line, the highest clip in the Big Ten. The 150 makes (8.8 per game) rank third in the conference.

Mackenzie Mgbako gets called for a charge. Looked like there was some feet movement there by Fletcher Loyer.

6-0 Purdue run. Indiana basketball just 1-9 right now. Missing some bunnies and forced into some tough shots.

Ware picks up his first foul. Mgbako and Ware on the bench for extended minutes is not good for Indiana at all.

The amount of moving screens by Zach Edey is mind-blowing.

Trey Galloway cuts the lead to 10 but Purdue extends it again.

Purdue leads 39-25 with 3:33 left in the half. 

Flagrant 1 foul on Xavier Johnson. Was originally called a common foul.

Second half

Gabe Cupps hits a three out of the break. Galloway follows with a three.

Another Trey Galloway three.

Kel’el Ware picks up his third foul.

Malik Reneau gets fouled. He goes 0-2 at the line but Mgbako gets the board and scores plus the foul. He makes the And1.

Purdue pushes the lead to 58-42 after a pretty good run from Indiana.

Indiana on a 17-7 run to start the half.

Block by Ware leads us in the first media timeout of the half. Purdue leads 58-46 with 14:56 left.

Loyer drives out of bounds out of the break.

Gabe Cupps three cuts the lead to 58-49. PU responds.

Galloway gets fouled in transition. He does 2-2 at the line.

Timeout Indiana. Purdue leads 60-51.

Malik Reneau foul leads unto the under-12 media timeout. Purdue up 62-51 with 11:36 left. 

PU extends the lead to 63-51 out of the break. Hoosiers need to make a push.

Xavier Johnson took a hard shot on the ground. Think he was trying to get the refs to look at it but nothing was there.

Ware three cuts the PU lead to 11.

Under-8 media timeout: Purdue 73, Indiana 56

Mgbako goes 0-2 at the line out of the break. Purdue extends the score to 75-56.
