Indiana basketball is set to close the regular season in its 124th season of competition on Sunday, March 10, against Michigan State. Hoosiers have won their last three games and are playing their best basketball of the season. The program will take part in the annual Senior Day festivities, including the 51st edition of senior speeches, following the game.

Michigan State, under the guidance of Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo, are led by fifth-year senior guard Tyson Walker. He ranks fifth in the Big Ten in scoring at 18.0 points per night and third in steals at 1.9 per contest. He is shooting 44.4% (199-of-448) from the floor, 36.4% (51-of-140) from behind the arc, and 73.0% (73-of-100) from the free throw line.

Jakai Newton is dressed for the first time this season. He is listed as out. He has missed the entire season with a knee injury.

Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal are expected to go through senior day activities. They both have a Covid year remaining it they want to use it.

Ware scores as the shot clock was winding down. He follows it up with a three. Hoosiers up 17-5.

Xavier Johnson checks in for Gabe Cupps. Anthony Walker checks in for Reneau.

Reneau in for Ware. He gets fouled. He goes 2-2 at the line.

Xavier Johnson misses a wide-open layup. Too fast there.

Cupps in for Mgbako. Ware in for Walker.

Cupps picks up his first foul. There was a discussion between the refs, Leal, and Reneau afterwards.

Under-8 Media Timeout: Indiana basketball 26, MSU 12

Strong offensive rebound from Mgbako off a missed Cupps three. He put it right back up.

Kel’el Ware with a LONG pass to Malik Reneau in transition. Crowd got up for that one.

Reneau goes 2-2 at the line out of the break.

Three turnovers from MSU the last 1:21. Hoosiers also with three turnovers the last 1:30.

Reneau picks up his first foul.

Trey Galloway has still not been in the game since he left early this half.

Ware goes 0-2 at the line.

MSU three cuts the lead to 34-27.

Xavier Johnson trying to do a little too much on the floor right now. Cupps comes in for him.

Second Half

Johnson and Cupps start in the backcourt this half.

MSU three from Walker out of the half.

Indiana basketball turnover.

Ware gets IU’s first point son the half.

MSU cuts the lead to 36-35.

MSU three gives the Spartans the 38-36 lead.

MSU on a 9-0 run to start the half and Mike Woodson calls timeout with 15:58 left. Hoosiers down 41-36.

Have to feel for Trey Galloway right now. If this is indeed his last time playing in SSAH, not being able to be on the floor has got to be tough for him. Especially with how Indiana is struggling without him right now.

Ware breaks the MSU run.

Indiana basketball on a 6-0 right now.

Xavier Johnson picks up his third foul.

Great job by Mike Woodson and the coaching staff to get the refs to review that Xavier Johnson foul. Looked to be a push off from MSU that sent X to the floor. Refs say nothing and IU is charged with a timeout.

Under-12 Media Timeout: MSU 50, Indiana 46

Leal picks up his second foul.

MSU extends the lead to 55-48. less than 10-min to go.

Mgbako three cuts the lead to 55-53.

Johnson three gives the Hoosiers the lead back.

8-0 Indiana run sparked by Ware, Mgbako, and Johnson gives the Hoosiers the 56-55 lead with 7:42 left. Tom Izzo calls timeout. 

MSU misses a three out of the break.

Reneau gets the bucket plus the foul. He misses the FT, however.

Indiana basketball forces a shot clock violation.

Reneau foul leads to the final media timeout. Hoosiers up 60-59 with 3:32 left.

Xavier Johnson turnover. Big one.

Game tied at 60 with 2:56 left.

Reneau bucket plus the foul. He missed the free throw but got the ball back. He missed a bunny.

Ware gets the bucket plus the foul. He misses the FT, however.

Game tied again at 64. 1:20 left.

MSU timeout. Tied at 64. 57.0 left.

MSU misses and Ware gets the rebound. Mike Woodson calls timeout with 33 secs left. Game still tied at 64.

Ware fouled. Pick and roll action between him and Johnson. Ware goes 1-2. Indiana lead with 14.5 left. 65-64.
