The 2023 Indiana basketball Hoosier Hysteria is officially here and HoosierIllustrated.com has you covered for tonight’s event.

This is the unofficial kickoff for both the men’s and women’s season. Earlier this week, the full details of Hoosier Hysteria were released with important info, multiple events, competitions and much more all noted for what fans can expect.

Indiana basketball will host multiple recruiting targets including Trent Sisley, Braylon Mullins, Azavier Robinson, Gabe Sularski, Dezhon Hall, and many more tonight as well.

Below is the live blog for tonight’s Hoosier Hysteria with live updates throughout. 

Quick Notes:

  • Women’s Indiana basketball team from last year was presented with their Big Ten Championship rings.
  • Calbert Cheaney was interviewed and said Mike Woodson was a mentor to him and it was hard for him to say no when he was asked to come back.
  • Sydney Parrish: “Just being back home, it’s everything.”

Introductions Notes:

  • They had fans, cheerleaders, and students making a pathway for the introductions. Really cool.
  • Women’s team was out first.
  • Yarden Garzon enters Hoosier Hysteria with the flag of Israel draped around her shoulders. Awesome moment.
  • Sydney Parrish and Mackenzie Holmes with the biggest reactions from the crowd.
  • Teri Moren came out to “Small Town” by John Mellencamp Crowd loved it and gave her such an ovation.
  • Men’s Indiana basketball team came out next
  • Gabe Cupps was out first. Crowd was amped.
  • Walk-on Jordan Rayford comes out to the Undertaker’s theme.
  • Crowd went nuts for Mackenzie Mgbako.
  • Payton Sparks and Anthony Walker with a little dance for their Intro.
  • Trey Galloway may have gotten the biggest reaction of all the intros.
  • Calbert Cheaney got a monster reaction.
  • Jordan Hulls, Brian Walsh, Yasir Rosemond, and Kenya Hunter came out with their kids.
  • Mike Woodson had a video for his intro with multiple people saying: “Indiana basketball is the S***” including Cody Zeller and Jalen Hood-Schifino.

Coach Speeches Notes: 

Tere Moren:

  • Touted the point guard play and Mackenzie Holmes as to why Indiana basketball will be one of the top programs this season
  • “We have some of the best shooters in the country.”
  • Gave a major shootout to Hoosier Nation for their support over the years.
  • Teri Moren on Mackenzie Holmes: “She is one of the best teammates in the country….she has worked her tail off since she has arrived here in Bloomington….She came back to Indiana because she loves Indiana”

Mike Woodson: 

  • “Indiana has the greatest fans in college basketball.”
  • Woodson says that he came back to win the Big Ten Championship and National Championship.
  • “Make no mistake about it, Bob Knight is Indiana basketball.”
  • Woodson said he is pleased with the group they have put together for this season.
  • “I love the makeup of our ball club.”

Competition Notes:

Skills Challenge: 

  • Xavier Johnson and Mackenzie Holmes beat Kel’el Ware and Lexus Bargesser to advance to finals.
  • Anthony Leal and Renee Beaumont beat Gabe Cupps and Chloe Moore-McNeil to advance to finals. Leal hit a near full-court shot to win it.
  • Anthony Leal and Renee Beaumont would beat Xavier Johnson and Mackenzie Holmes to win the skills challenge.
  • That was such a wild challenge.

Three-Point Challenge: 

  • Three-Point Contest Teams: Garzon and Galloway, Gunn and Parrish, Cupps and Scalia, Mgbako and Moore-McNeil
  • Harden and Cupps were lights out in this challenge.
  • Mgbako looked really sharp.
  • Cupps and Scalia would win.

Knockout: 

  • Yarden Garzon beat Anthony Walker in the Knockout Challenge.
