The Indiana basketball program landed its first commitment in the 2024 class on Sunday when five-star Liam McNeeley committed to Indiana.
McNeeley is ranked No. 13 overall in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
McNeeley made his announcement on ESPN during halftime of one of the consolation games at the GEICO Top Flight Invite at the Border League in Las Vegas.
After his announcement, ESPN Recruiting Analyst Paul Biancardi asked the five-star who he would be recruiting to come to Indiana? Without hesitation McNeeley named two guys.
“My first call will be to the man right here, Derik Queen,” McNeeley said as he was surrounded by his teammates. ” … Boogie Fland, that call is coming too.”
McNeeley and Queen are teammates at Montverde Academy (Fla.).
Sources have indicated to HoosierIllustrated that a commitment from McNeeley to Indiana could ultimately play somewhat of a role in Derik Queen’s recruitment. While it will be a basketball decision at the end of the day, the friendship between the two holds a lot of weight. The programs that are recruiting both Queen and McNeeley are Indiana and Kansas. They took back-to-back visits to Kansas and Indiana the first two weekends of September.
“We have a great relationship. We’re brothers,” McNeeley told HoosierIllustrated.com of his relationship with Queen.
Queen has taken two official visits to Indiana basketball. The other programs involved are Kansas, Maryland and Houston. Queen is likely to make a decision in the next few weeks following his final visits. He wants to have a decision before the early signing period which takes place from Nov. 8 – 15.
Queen is ranked No. 17 overall in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Boogie Fland is another five-star target that the Indiana basketball program is heavily involved with. His recruitment will likely come down to Indiana and Kentucky. He has a top three of Indiana, Kentucky and Alabama.
The Archbishop Stepinac (NY) will make his college choice on Friday, Oct. 20 at 2:00 pm ET. Fland took an official visit to Indiana in June and immediately put the Hoosiers in a good spot in his recruitment.
Fland has no other visits.
McNeeley’s commitment could start a domino effect for the Indiana basketball program on the recruiting trail.
