Former Indiana basketball forward Race Thompson broke the devastating news on his Instagram that he suffered a significant injury that set back professional career.
Thompson announced on Instagram that he fractured his ‘right tibia plateau two months ago’.
“Imma be back and better than ever trust that!” Thompson posted on his Instagram story. “Been off the grid and wanted to give a little update.”
Before the injury, Race Thompson had signed a deal to play for the New York Knicks in this year’s NBA 2K24 Summer league. However, due to the injury, he wouldn’t be able to play.
Thompson played for Indiana for 6 seasons and proved to be one of Indiana’s best role players during his time in Bloomington.
In his last season with the Hoosiers, he averaged 8.4 points and 5.2 rebound in 30 games played. In total, Thompson averaged 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game across 130 appearances for Indiana basketball. He started 91 of his final 92 contests. He shot 51.1% (340-of-744) from the floor and 64.6% (204-of-316) from the free throw line in his career.
During his time with Indiana basketball, Thompson fought through his fair share of injuries that sidelined him at times. His most recent injury came during Indiana’s road loss to Iowa where he missed an extended period of time. He would later return and finish his career by leading Indiana to their second straight NCAA Tournament berth under Mike Woodson.
