With the NBA playoffs about to get ramped up, a couple of former Indiana basketball forwards have already secured a championship when it comes to NBA G-League.
On Monday, in game three of the first ever NBA G-League Championship finals, the Oklahoma City Blue defeated the Maine Celtics 117-100 win the NBA G-League Championship. The Oklahoma City Blue feature two former Indiana basketball forwards, Miller Kopp (player) and DJ White (front office).
In the championship game, Kopp only got 2 minutes of player time and did not record a stat. After averaging 17.6 minutes in 26 appetences for the Oklahoma City Blue this season, his minutes really shrank when it came to the NBA G-League Finals. During the regular season, Kopp averaged 6.3 points on a 38.1 percent field goal rate on 5.2 attempts per game. He 31.1 percent from behind arc, as well and added 2.5 rebounds.
Kopp averaged 8.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 35 starts during his final season for Indiana basketball. The Houston native made a team-best 63 3-pointers and shot 48.1% (100-of-208) from the field, 44.4% (63-of-142) from the 3-point line, and 82.6% (19-of-23) from the free throw line. He also is the all-time leader in conference games played in Big Ten men’s basketball history.
DJ White – the former Big Ten Player of the Year — also was able to secure a championship with his role in the front office for the Oklahoma City Blue. White recently retired from playing professional basketball in August of 2022. He played 13 seasons professionally between in the NBA and overseas.
He played for Indiana from 2004-2008 and was a Consensus second-team All-American (2008) and Big Ten Freshman of the Year (2005).
