While the current season is far from over for Indiana basketball, the biggest talking point surrounding the program has been about the next head coach after Mike Woodson announced he would be stepping down.

Clemson head coach Brad Brownell has been mentioned as a potential option due to his connections to the state and the program.

The Evansville, IND. Native was asked about the opening ahead of the ACC Tournament.

“I’m not going to talk about potential jobs. I have a great job, and I’m 100 percent focused on this team and what we’ve got ahead of us,” Brownell said per The Post and Courier. “I’m trying to do everything I can to help us continue to win the next game.”

Brownell has been with Clemson since 2010 and has boasted a 291–194 record with four tournament appearances including last year’s Elite Eight run.

Before Clemson, Brownell took UNC Wilmington to the tournament twice in four years and Wright State to one tournament appearance in four years before leaving for Clemson.

Clemson is on the way to another tournament appearance with a 26-5 record entering the ACC Tournament.

“You’re grateful that you’re doing good things, right? That’s what’s going to happen if you’re doing the right things and you’re winning enough games,” Brownell said of the Indiana Basketball speculation. “I’ve never been a self-promoter. And that’s partly because of how much I really like Clemson.”

Brownell’s ties to Indiana basketball run deeper than just being from the state. He was high school teammates with Indiana legend Calbert Cheaney who is currently serving as the director of player development with the program.

Brownell began his coaching career in the state after playing four years for Depauw. He was an assistant coach for Evansville (1991-92) and UIndy (1992-1994) before joining UNC Wilmington as an assistant.

While Brownell appears to be happy with his current position, he could be a name to watch as Indiana basketball moves down the board of potential candidates.
