Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was named the winner of the 2023 Karl Malone Award, announced on Saturday. The award is given to the top power forward in the country.

Jackson-Davis finished this season averaging 20.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.9 blocks per game. He was a consensus First-Team All-American and unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten selection.

Jackson-Davis finished his Indiana career as the program’s all-time leader in rebounds (1,143) and blocked shots (270) and was third in scoring (2,258) and double-doubles (50).

He is also one of five finalists for the Naismith Award, given to the top player in the country. Earlier this week, Jackson-Davis was named to the 2023 Wooden All-America team.

Jackson-Davis’ scoring average marked the highest for an Indiana basketball player since Eric Gordon (20.9 points per game in 2007-08). His rebounding average was the highest since Steve Downing (15.1 rebounds per game in 1972-73). Additionally, his blocks per game was the most since Dean Garrett (3.4 blocks per game in 1987-88).

“I could not be more excited to receive this year’s Karl Malone Award, “Jackson-Davis said after winning the award. “This is something I share with our coaches and staff, my teammates, family, and all of Hoosier Nation. Thank you to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for this honor.”

“Trayce has accomplished so much as an Indiana Hoosier and is very deserving of the Karl Malone Award,” IU head coach Mike Woodson added. “When this team was down in early January, he put the entire program on his shoulders, and night after night he made winning plays. He was the best player on the court all the way through the postseason.”

Indiana finished 23-12 this season with a Round of 32 exit in the NCAA Tournament to Miami. After failing to make the NCAA Tournament for six straight years, Indiana has made it back-t0-back seasons.
