The Indiana football program has played host to over two dozen recruits over the last few weekends. That was highlighted by its Junior Day at the beginning of the month.

One of the more notable prospects to get to Bloomington was 2024 Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove quarterback Tyler Cherry. Cherry led Greenwood to a State Championship in 2022 after throwing for 2,269 yards, 22 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He also had a 65 percent completion percentage.

Cherry holds some other notable offers outside of Indiana. That includes Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), Ohio and Toledo among others.

But, there has been a lot of recent buzz about Indiana’s position in Cherry’s recruitment.

Recently, 247Sports Director of Football recruiting Steve Wiltfong put in a Crystal Ball selection in favor of Indiana for the in-state quarterback.

In addition to Wiltfong, Rivals National Recruiting Director Adam Gorney says that the Hoosiers are ‘towards the top of the list’ for Cherry’

“Indiana is ‘towards the top of the list’ for the three-star quarterback from Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove and the Hoosiers could look even better after a recent visit to Bloomington … while Cherry is planning some other visits, Indiana has to like its spot.”

Indiana could have a few potential connections with Cherry. The main one is with the pull of being the in-state school. But, Indiana also landed Cherry’s former Center Grove teammate, four-star quarterback Tayven Jackson, from the transfer portal earlier this offseason. Indiana was heavily involved with Jackson out of high school before he originally committed to Tennessee.

So, while different style of quarterbacks, how Jackson develops with Indiana this upcoming season could play a role in Cherry’s decision as well.

Indiana is looking to improve on a 4-8 record in 2022 which followed a 2-10 record in 2021. Before the last two seasons, Tom Allen led Indiana to a 14-7 combined record the previous two years, including two bowl game appearances.

Cherry is ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 69 quarterback in the 247Sports class of 2024 rankings.
